Is the news not using the lang="en_US.php" part of the tag call?...
I've used diff. lang. files before w/o problems before...
CMSMS 1.1.1 News that came with it....

Just tested News 2.5
My default language is english
and I changed the news tag to use lang='fr_FR' and it worked perfectly
