Modules won't install

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

Modules won't install

Post by herbshirt »

I've read as much as I can but....

I'm getting the big red warning about "the Modules folder is not writable..."

I've to'd and fro'd with my host a few times but we can't work it out.

My Modules folder is definitely set to 777. They assure they have switched off php safe mode. What else is there? Is there something else I can check? I have quite a few domains with this host and they have always been great so I don't want to go elsewhere. I'd like to start creating more cms ms sites.

Heeeelp???

Thanks,
Herb.

Search for file permissions and you may find the answer....

I already did that. I've spent hours of searching reading and emailing my host etc etc. That's why I posted here. I love CMS MS but it feels pretty one legged if I can't install modules. (yes, I'm getting frustrated now)

Hello,

searching for "odules folder is not writable" I've only found one hint to chmod 777 the uploads folder too. But this hint may be deprecated now.
There is a non XML way of installing modules too, seen in these forums : local unpack+install and FTP transfert to the hosting place.

Tried that but I still get the warning and hence they do not appear in my modules list.

Pretty extreme but I might have to try a different host.

Surely theres someone out there with an answer....???

I am in the same boat.  I have GoDaddy hosting, and I have cmsms setup on a different site that is GoDaddy too, and it works just fine.    Like herbshirt, I have been researching and researching, and I have been unable to figure it out. Any suggestions anyone?

Could it be that GoDaddy has something under the cover with regards to security. Once I installed a module via XML and all security was automatically set to default Apache that my site is running on at the provider. Then I wanted to delete the module  via FTP (I CHMOD it to 777) and was not able to delete it. I really had to ask the provider to delete the directory. Could it be that GoDaddy has something set for the modules directory? Unfortunatly I don't know/use GoDaddy so I don't know who/where to ask for support on their side (I guess Daddy  :-\)
