Web Installer?

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

Web Installer?

Post by Kristy »

Hi there,
I'm fairly new to this cms and I love it! I installed my first cmsms about a week ago and everything so far is fantastic. I want to install to a different site and I see that there is a new version available.

My question is: Where is the web installer that I used a couple of weeks ago? It was fantastic and made everything effortless. I've searched everywhere I could think of...

Thanks,
Kristy

Hello,

if you can't find this "web installer" under the "downloads" above tab, may be it was not CMSms ?-)

Well, I checked the "Downloads" tab in the navigation above, and there is no reference to a "Web Installer" on the page. I have no clue what to do with the zipfile I just expanded for the CMS Made Simple installation. The information in the install.txt refers to untarring the file on the web server. Which is not what I can do - I have no shell access.

What do I do with the uncompressed files in the zipfile to install them on a subdomain on my server? Are there specific steps for handling the zipfile? I looked in all the .txt files provided with the zipped version of CMSMadeSimple, and found nothing to help me with installing from the uncompressed files of the zipfile.

My only access for MySQL is through a control panel, not through the command line.

Hello,

what about reading the documentation, including the FTP installation guide ?

Have you read...

http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php ... ck_Install

Unzip, transfer via FTP to site or subfolder on site, go to yoursite.com/subfolder/install...

I have numerous installs in subfolders, I just FTP to my site and right click to make new directory/folder then fill it with the files/folders from the unzipped CMSMS, then run install...

What I did was look on the Downloads page, for something called "Web Installer" - didn't find it. After spending about 15 minutes searching on the forums, I eventually found my way to the "Documentation" page. Still didn't find anything called "Web Installer" or any other information for handling the uncompressed files for the zip file.

Eventually found my way to the "User Handbook" page and found the section on Installation.

If I could offer a suggestion? Add some text in install.txt file of the zip file directing those people downloading the zip file to the "Installation" page online in the "User Handbook". Is this something that I, as a new user, could add that would be included in the downloaded zipfile for other users?

You are right. I hadn't looked at the INSTALL.TXT file for a while. The one supplied inside the 1.1 package is geek level. The first line should state : latests installation instructions are at http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php/User_Handbook
I hope a devteam member will add this sentence at the top of the file.
Have fun with CMSms

Do you mean the "Extensions -> Module Manager", when you mentioned the "Web installer", as there is the only place to browse through CMSMS modules and install on the fly.

As stated in the other replys, the other method is by FTP-ing the module to the site and got to "Extensions -> Modules" and press the "install"-link.

Hi Pierre,

My apologies - I've been away from CMS Made Simple for a couple weeks, and have just come back to the project.

Yes, I agree updating the install.txt that is part of the zipfile would be great. Is there a set procedure to have your suggestion:

"The latest installation instructions are at http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php/User_Handbook"

sent to the devteam? Or do they visit the forums regularly?
