Upgrade from 1.0.2 > 1.0.8, wrong DB schema, "Database Connection failed"

may be these old installs have buggy modules ? or too old incompatible modules ?
or the database server has special settings ?

I haven't found a common denominator yet.

I've upgraded sites that have incompatible modules... they either just disappear, or like formbuilder it says "no longer supported" but keeps working.

What about a special setting on the database server side : connection limits, less privileges or so ?

But when trying to upgrade, I get schema detected as 1, try to upgrade... "Database connection failed", and config.sys gets wiped out.

Hope I don't run after the battle...   

I had the same message by upgrading from 1.0.8 to 1.1.
I solved the problem by overwriting the config.sys with my "backuped" one just before launching /install/upgrade.php

In fact there *is* an empty config.sys in the "cmsmadesimple-fr-1.1.tar.bz2" archive.
There shouldn't be any...
So when copying the files extracted from "cmsmadesimple-fr-1.1.tar.bz2" to your site, the good config.sys file is overwritten by an empty one!

A bug report should be issued about this but I don't know how to proceed.

.. it seems here are 3 different problems with the same impact.

the one souslespins13 had is clear now ...

@vaughnt: possible you can solve your problem like I did.
Just the database is not unchanged - so you have to make these
changes by hand!?

Which result you get when you do an comparision with diff on the DB dumps?
( I meant an empty DB 1.0.2 and 1.1)
