About upgrading

Post by amin30b »

Hi All
I want to upgrade my current installation 1.0.5 version to 1.0.8 version .
Can I upload cmsmadesimple-diff-1.0.7-1.0.8.tar.gz file to my server and
then extract it to current root of CMSMS installation ? Is this way true ?
Where can I find an useful tutorial for correct upgrading ?

No. If you only wanna use diff files for upgrading you have to upload every diff file from 1.0.5 till 1.0.8 cause the diff files contains only the changes between the current and the last version.

Hello,

about the current upgrading information in the wiki : I haven't seen anything about the uploads folder. Doesn't it need to be moved too ?

Thank you for the clarification, Cyberman.
I should have read better : back up your database and all the files in the CMSms folder which includes upload.

i had several installs to go from 1.04 to 1.08; i just made my own 1.04->1.08 archive to use.

tip: when backing up your cmsms installation, clear the cache through the admin panel first.

What about full package for example cmsmadesimple-1.0.8.tar.gz ? Can I upload this zip package on the server and extract it and is it required for upgrading from 1.0.5 to 1.0.8 first upgrade from 1.0.5 to 1.0.7 and then use cmsmadesimple-diff-1.0.7-1.0.8.tar.gz for upgrading ?

This could be a way too - full release contains all database updates too.

But you should create a database backup before ;).

No I don`t mean it cyberman ! I say: should we have exactly version 1.0.7 for using cmsmadesimple-diff-1.0.7-1.0.8.tar.gz or cmsmadesimple-diff-1.0.7-1.0.8.tar.gz can be used for all older versions like 1.0.5 or 1.0.4 ?

Thanks

as the file name states cmsmadesimple-diff-1.0.7-1.0.8.tar.gz can be used to upgrade 1.0.7 to 1.0.8

thats why we have diffs like cmsmadesimple-diff-1.0.5-1.0.6.tar.gz and so on.

that filename can be read as

upgrade with diff from 1.0.7 to 1.0.8

you can use the full package to upgrade from whatever version to the latest as it includes all the files.

hope this clarifies..
