News system error - only displaying one news item??

Hi, I have never seen this before but I now have it on two of my newest installs. The first news item that was created (by default) shows but anything new that I add does not. I can see the news items in the manager but only the original default test message shows up in the news call. Even if I am stating I want 2 or 3 news items to show.

Tried several variations:
{news number=2}

Anyone see this. The only diff I can think of this is MySQL 5.0 from my other sites which I have never seen this.

check the post date, install dates, and publish status of each of the articles

Yes, no date limitation are listed what so ever. I even tried adding a date but made it a few years and that didn't work. This one is weird but may be an isolated issue. Although - I do now have 2 new installs with the same issue (v 1.0.8 btw)

Will keep testing but as always - if anyone beats me to it - lemme know
