Help on a script in template please

I am looking for a way to script in my frontpage template a way to preload a series of images, one for each top level menu entry, the idea is that the images shown under each menu derives its name from the name of the menu entry - so for the menu entry services the image services.jpg is used and for the menu entry help the image help.jpg is used

I have found out who to render the image in the template I use for normal pages / menu entries based on the chosen menu

How do I go about the preload?
