Hi Guys,
I am a new user of the CMS system. I think the functionality is amazing so I have started to try migrate astatic html website I look after over to CMS. I don't have my own apache server, I use a hosting company and their servers and DB so don't have those details to hand however I am using cmsmadesimple-1.0.7.
The install seem to go well and I created my first page etc on Friday. I added certain modules and agin seemed like no problem at all. However when I tried to work on the site today, some strange things occured - my content, menu's etc went missing!
Here are the steps I completed:
Clicked on content > Pages > Home page file
When I added new content to this page (basic plain text), all of the content went missing. I then clicked to add a new section which it did on the left nav but again none of the main content was displayed. I then apply a new template across all pages and then the site totally disappeared and if I try access index.php I just get a blank page. I tried adding new content, setting different templates across all the pages etc but to no avail. When I try access some of the existing old static pages that were not created using CMS they appear fine so I don't believe it is a hosting issue.
I hope my explanation isn't too vague. Is there some default setting I'm missing to see the new changes put in place? Even when I preview the site in CMS admin the content/menu's etc don't appear correctly.
Any help provided would be much appreciated
Aidan

A link to the site would be useful, so we can see what's happening.
Are your pages marked as "active"?

Re: Beginner issue with CMS
Hello Aidan,
I'm not sure, but here is a suggestion :
-backup your database.
-reupload the CMSms software.
-rerun the install from this fresh upload skipping table creation.
-don't forget to delete the install folder.
The idea is to reinstall the software without losing the data. If it works, you still have to discover how some software had disapeared (ask your hosting provider ?)
Wish you the best.

Hi Aidan.
You are quite right about your assumptions and I find no content displayed from the frontend.
However, if I request "generated html" I get this which would lead me to think that perhaps the database is not connecting correctly - just my guess.
Before you try re-installing, you might want to consider upgrading to v 1.0.8 as the version (1.0.7) you are using has a few seciruty issues - upgrade asap.
Would it be possible for you to post your code here so we could see it; your template code and your config.php (do not include your database security settings).
Regards.
Mike.

Re: Beginner issue with CMS
I think the database is connecting correctly, because as a test, I went to the site's admin panel and clicked submit with no username and password and it returned back that I had bad credentials. This implies to me that the database is connecting correctly because login queries the db and the fact that the admin panel still works means the software is still there, right?
What modules did you install? I had problems with the Archiver module which prevented me from updating global content blocks...after uninstalling it, normal operation was restored.
Couldn't you enable debugging to try to see what's going on? The php error log might also be helpful, but as I understand you don't have access to this, right?

Re: Beginner issue with CMS
Hi Guys,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I took ars17's advice and unintalled all the modules and normal service was restored. By a process of elimination it appears the issue is with the "CustomContent" module - version 1.4.4. I don't know whether this bug was raised before? Should I post it somewhere? Just not sure of the usual procedure when you find a bug.
Also as advised by Muzzy and Pierre, I would like to upgrade to 1.0.8, is there a published step-by-step guide to do this? I just don't want to lose the work completed so far - DB setups, content etc
Thanks
Aidan

Glad you was able to solve the issue, sometimes modules do tend to throw things in the air a bit.
Muzzy.
To upgrade go this tutorial, which is pretty easy to do.aidank wrote:
