Frontend Users module - forget password doesn't work

Post by harleyquinn »

Working with Frontend Users + Customcontent to create password protected pages and it works great except when a user forgets their password. If a user clicks on "Forgot your password?" it lets the user enter their username and says:

"An email has been sent to user@someaddress.com with instructions as to how to reset your password."

But the email is never received by the user. The if the user tries again, this message comes up:

"Either yourself or someone else has already triggered a password reset operation for this account. Check your email, you may have further instructions on how to reset your password in your inbox"

Any ideas on how to fix this?  ???

Also is there a way to have it so that the password is just emailed to the user without the user having to reset it?

Did you set preferences for FrontEndUers?
"Either yourself or someone else has already triggered a password reset operation for this account. Check your email, you may have further instructions on how to reset your password in your inbox"
Allow duplicate "forgot password" reminders?: (allow a users to request a password reset, even if they haven't acted on a previous one)

**********************************************

The issue I'm having is when I click on "forgot password" link, I then enter my user name and submit.  I get the message indicating that user name was not found in the database...

Thoughts anyone?

FrontEndUsers uses the CMSMailer Module to send messages

The CMSMailer module has a test method to test to make sure that messages can be sent properly.

Have you tried this?

I just ran into this problem this morning while setting up FEU. When I try to retrieve a lost password I enter the username and always get tihs:

We could not find an email address for this account

I've tried several usernames and also checked that each have an email address and also verified CMSMailer is working correctly.

Any ideas?

Heres and example:

http://www.alaskawcca.org/index.php?mact=FrontEndUsers,cntnt01,default,0&cntnt01form=forgotpw&cntnt01returnto=80&cntnt01returnid=80

username: test
password: 123456

I'm running CMSMS 1.0.4 and FEU 1.2

Appreciate your help!

I just noticed this as well. I have 1.08 and the latest frontend users, but when I click on the link for forgot password, it simply loads the same page without anything new. Any ideas?

Maybe your host is having problems sending emails.  Have you adjusted the CMSMailer settings to match what your host requires, and tried sending a Test messag.

A) my CMS Mailer Module works fine.

B) that error is obviously occurring during the SQL query, before any email is created and sent.

there are two others in this short thread with the same problem, and it seems to have not been resolved - the problem isn't their CMS Mailer either...

Thanks tho.

Okay.... I just tested the latest svn version (though I haven't done much work on FEU since 1.2 was released)

1) The "Allow duplicate "forgot password" reminders" setting was checked in my admin panel, and I requested a password reset, and got the message..... this worked great
2) Then I unchecked the option and requested a password reminder.  I got the message:
Either yourself or someone else has already triggered a password reset operation for this account. Check your email, you may have further instructions on how to reset your password in your inbox
Again, this is exactly as expected.

Unfortunately, there's no way to reset these flags in the admin interface at the moment, so the checkbox is the only way to go.  But I did get the message.

"and got the message..... this worked great"

got what message?

something else that confuses me - if there are settings in the Admin area for "duplicate email addresses", etc., it's going on the assumption that i've created an "email" property (which i have done). is this the email address for which the lost password function is searching?

[solved] Frontend Users module - forget password doesn't work

Post by glennn.php »

fixed it -

under "Type" in User Properties, i had left it as a Text Field - there's an "Email Address" option that seems to have solved the problem...

hope that's what the others' problem was/is.

Here's the contents of the message I got:
You are receiving this message because somebody told our site that you had lost your password. If this is the case, read the instructions below. If you don't have a clue what this is, then you are safe to delete this message, and we thank you for your time.
The following code has been generated randomly generated in order to verify the user account. when you click on the link below you will be presented with a field to enter this code. Normally the field is pre-completed for you, but incase it isn't the code is: SQVVTPCUYT
Clicking on the following link will take you to the website where you can enter the above code, and reset your password:
http://mysite.com/index.php?mact=FrontEndUsers,cntnt01,verifycode,0&cntnt01input_uid=632&cntnt01input_code=SQVVTPCUYT&cntnt01returnid=78
I changed the sitename .... but that's it.

Now for part 2.

Yes..... the 'Allow duplicate "forgot password" reminders?" setting assumes that:
a) you've created a property of type 'email address',
b) associated that property with one or more of your groups, (marked it as optional or required, and given a sort order to it).
c) that the user belongs to one or more of those groups,
d) that the user requesting the lost password setting has a valid email address set.
(you should be able to see all of this when you edit the user)
