File permissions error on new server

Post by palmatec »

I just moved my entire site and CMSMS to a new "virtual dedicated" server. The site and cms admin look good, but when I try to upload an image i get an error:
File could not be uploaded. Permissions problem?
Also, when I try to update a page I do not get an error, but the changes do not get saved and the page reverts back to the way it was.

I am able to create new directories using file manage, and upload to those, but I am unable to edit anything that is already there. And i can't FTP to these directories, or change the permissions via FTP.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!

What is the permission of your upoads directory?  depending on the ownership of this directory, the permissions may have to be 777 (unless the owner is the httpd process user).

Also, try clearing your cache in global settings.

Hi - thanks for the reply.

The permissions are set to 777 for the uploads dir. The strange part is that i am unable to edit content or add pages. After i click 'submit' it appears as though it was saved, but it wasn't. The content just reverts back to the way it was.

When trying to create a new page, i get an error "No content given!"

So it appears that the database is not 'seeing' the html editor. i am sure this is a permissions issue, i just dont' know which file or dir to change.
