Show newest news item

Hi!

My site contains a subpage called "Latest news". When visiting this page I want to show the newest news item immediately. How do I get the news page to "open" the first news item and show it on the page?

I dont want a news summary section on my frontpage, only a menulink to my news page.

Are there any tags who can fetch the newest news item id or how do I do it?
