New to CMS MS, advice please

Post by banter »

HI, I am new here and not downloaded CMS MS yet as I have a few questions. I really really like the look of it so far and love the feel of this friendly forum so I am really hopeing this cms is for me  :)

I am on a windows server at the moment and don't have .htaccess. Will this be a problem in any way? In particular I am thinking SEF urls? I really want SEF urls  ;D

Does the Search function search static pages as well as the News pages? And is there a search mod to increase the capabilities of the search?

With regards to the copyright symbol or refernce to CMS MS, I noticed many of the websites mentioned in the forum do not have any reference to CMS MS. Does this mean they have all bought the license, or is it not necessary to have any mention of CMS MS?

I think that is all the questions I have as everything else I want I can see CMS MS already clearly has it!

Many thanks in advance,

Banter

Just give it a try - or try the online-demo... http://www.opensourcecms.com/index.php? ... 2&Itemid=0

It works fine on windows-servers.

The search function does search news as well.

Thanks for the quick replies!
Just to confirm then, the search works for static pages as well?

And the SEO urls work without .htaccess?

The demo is in a non-english language, I can't understand any of it  ???

Thank you!! Just been testing it and it looks brilliant!

Is it worth waiting for the next version (1.1)?

Hello banter,

about "SEF" : we call this "pretty URLs", or User Friendly URLs. Because if they are user friendly, they are SEF.
There are two ways of setting pretty URLs : almost pretty URLs and true pretty URLs.

Ugly URLs are like .net/code.php?param=foobar
Almost pretty URLs are like .net/index.php/foobar.html
True pretty URLs are like .net/foobar.html

BTW, opinions vary on the ".html" postfix. CMSms is flexible, you can choose it.

True pretty URLs require ".htaccess" tuning. If your hosting allows it, use them.
Almost pretty URLs don't. You should try them.
Ugly URLs are the default.

As someone has previously stated in these forums, we need user friendly URLs to print them on flyers.
Have fun

Hello again,

Almost pretty URLs don't require any ".htaccess".

But they need a nice webserver-PHP config (some close link in URL handling).
If your webserver is Apache, it should be OK.
If your webserver is IIS, it may work but I don't know.

So if you want "almost pretty URLs", try to enable them.
If it doesn't work, tell us more about your webserver and your PHP.
If it works, enjoy and tell us too to let me know.
