It looks like a bug was triggered, or maybe the database corrupted.

When I go to add a new page- cmsms actually inserts the data into a page that already exists.

Worse off yet, data that was on one page will be shifted to another.

Has anyone heard of this problem?  If so, is there a fix?  I have a backup of the database, but am going to loose quite a bit of work.

Have you tried to "reorder pages" and "clear cache". If you reorder the pages and submit, the hierarchy is restored. I don't know if this solves it for you, but I've had some problems with the hierarchy and after doing this, the system acted normally.
