CMSMS has no category ?

Post by tuanhoangdev »

Can i make a site for publish milion articles which group in to any category?

for example:

I want to have 3 category: PHP tutorials, MySQL tutorials, Ajax tutorials. These category made a menu on homepage: PHP tutorials | MySQL tutorials | Ajax tutorials. When a visitor click on one of them, for example click on PHP tutorial menu, 10 articles about PHP tutorial will be show on page, each article just show it's summary content and a "view more..." link, click "view more" will go to the detail of article page.

How I do that with CMSMS?

Thanks alot!
Vin

It can. This is done with the News module, which is delivered in the CMSMS pack. There you can publish news/articles, which can be assigned to categories.
However, I believe you'll need pagination - both for the admin and frontend. See these links:

You've tried Textpattern (or Wordpress maybe), haven't you?

Hello,

althought I agree the "News" module can do it, I think your site would have better value made with organized content. I mean not just the 3 (edit:typo)main categories but a full hierarchy, as php.net is made. Just my opinion.

The thing you're forgetting here is that CMSMS is a page based site, not a 'content' or 'article' based site.  once you distinguish betweent he two types of sites, you'll noticed that CMS handles 'page based sites' rather well, and handles the other moderately well with the news and other modules.

There are two different types of packages to meet two different needs.

Thank alot for your help. but why CMSMS's news manager build-in is not category-article style ? I think it's better pages-style. Just in my point  :)

What do you mean? I've already said you can assign the articles (or news, that's just terms) to categories.
I'm sorry, but I don't get the point.
