CMSMS 2.0 (say what now?!)
Re: CMSMS 2.0 (say what now?!)
I like to use CMSMS, but in certain situations I would turn to Modx, and just for a principal reason: Use "template variable"
"A Template Variable (TV) is a special variable that is used to represent a value inside a template or a document. MODx allows you to have a virtually unlimited number and types of TVs. As of Tech Preview 3, TVs are assigned to the Templates in your install.
When a document is displayed on the web TVs are replaced with the actual value entered by the user. TVs are template specific, meaning they can only be used in templates that they are assigned to. A TV can also be customized to display content for a specific document.
Template Variable Display Controls make it easier for users to add special visual effects to their web sites in a matter of seconds. With just a few clicks you can add a Marquee or a Ticker to scroll or change content on your website, a Data Grid to display a formatted table of data from a file or a database, an always-present floating display box and more." from modx http://modxcms.com/what-are-template-variables1.html
I think it's a really important to custom some template without programming.
thanks,
jg

Re: CMSMS 2.0 (say what now?!)
In CMSms, we can insert as many UDT or GCB as we want in each template. Couldn't they achieve the same ?

Re: CMSMS 2.0 (say what now?!)
My original plan was June, but I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen at this point. There is still a LOT of work to do and my time and motivation have been pretty limited lately. Maybe the end of the summer is a little more realistic looking at my upcoming schedule and the amount of work left.
Re: CMSMS 2.0 (say what now?!)
They current version is 1.0.4 now. Stayed that the same before 2.0? Or
can we expect 1.0.5?
can we expect 1.0.5?

Even Lower Lowest backend level...mark wrote: Permissions...
Lowest backend level...
Being able to edit only the page you were assigned and nothing else, no parent choice no moving it around in the menu, unless you make or are assigned a section or a parent page, no list of additional editors...
the ability to login from the page itself takes you straight to Content Edit page mode where you can upload files/images that only you and the main admin can see, no other low to mid level admins* have access to them, and still have a shared main upload folder that everyone can access...
all of the above must be approved by the next level up before it can be posted.
Re: CMSMS 2.0 (say what now?!)
This is all very exciting.
I'm a big fan of CMSMS and, besides a number of small sites, I am currently using it for an intranet. While it's not ideal for this application, it works alright.
I don't have any real complaints about the system - it's easy to get into and customize and it lets me have complete control. However, I have had one thought rolling around in my head: user management. Currently, the site is completely hidden behind FrontEndUsers/CustomContent. The problem arises when someone wants to get editing priveleges: I have to create a separate username/password for them in CMSMS's user system.
So, it occurred to me that integrating those modules' functionality into the core might be a way to avoid the problem noted above.
Just a thought.

Re: CMSMS 2.0 (say what now?!)
Yup, totally agreed. Users, groups, permissions (including viewing) will all work in the frontend as well as the backend. It won't be as powerful as FEU is now, but we'll have some way to extending the users to have the same power as FEU in the future with modules.

Sorry, I have obviously missed something - what is FEU? Sorry to be dim.Ted wrote: Yup, totally agreed.
