URL routing

Hello, I'm looking for a way to do "pretty" URLs with CMS made simple but I can't figure it out. Is there a module that can do this is or is there functionality built in that can do this? If you don't know what I'm talking about I mean right now my urls look like www.example.com/index.php?id=something and I want it to look like example.com/something...
