Integrating the TinyMCE Editor

Post by Anastasis »

I have read several posts in these forums recommending the TinyMCE editor over the FCKeditor.

Firstly, what are the pros and cons of both, and secondly, in order for me to try TinyMCE as an alternative, what do I need to do to install/integrate it into CMSMS. I have looked in the documentation and searched the forums but cannot find any reference to this.

You can use ModuleManager to install TinyMCE or you can download and install it from here: http://dev.cmsmadesimple.org/frs/?group ... ase_id=761

Once installed, go to My Preferences -> User Preferences and select TinyMCE.  :)

Hope this helps,

Elijah

Many thanks for your feedback on this. I have tried both methods, but without success.

When I tried installing it via ModuleManager, CMSMS sits there for a while with the browser progress bar not moving and then I get a message saying there was a problem loading the page (Firefox).

I then tried the alternative and downloaded the TinyMCE xml file and tried to install it via the suggested method. Again, CMSMS sits there for 2-3 minutes "sending request" to my domain, with no movement of the progress bar, then I get a message saying, "Error parsing XML file. Please make sure you are uploading a .xml file and not a .tar.gz or zip file".

I am uploading an XML file and the permissions on my Modules folder are 777, so I am puzzled by the error.

Do you have any clues what I or CMSMS may be doing wrong?

Thanks again.

Peter

I have tried all of the available versions of TinyMCE including the latest v2.0.5 all without success.

It sounds like it is timing out. Maybe try installing by downloading and unzipping the zip file and uploading the files via FTP.

Elijah - that solved it - many thanks!  :)

I like TinyMCE a lot more than FCKeditor. It seems to load faster and in particular I like the way it handles images in what seems like a more intuitive way including the ability to specify rollover images simply and intuitively.

I'm only a few days into using CMSMS and there is much I do not understand yet. I have lots to learn, but I am really pleased with what I have seen so far.

Thanks again,
Peter
