Some basic questions

Post by olavt »

I have decided to use CMSMS as basis for a redesign of my site. But CMSMS is not that simple. As a start I will just migrate the existing desing to CMSMS, and then work from there. (The site I am working on now is www.torvund.net/guitar)

The current design is based on tables and include files. The css is very basic, just to define fonts, etc.

What I would like to start with is a very basic design with a header, a body with three columns and a footer. I will have main navigations in the header and navigation in the left column.

If anyone have suggestions on which basic designs and template I should use as basis, I appreciate that.

What I am currently struggeling with is this:
I want to have a header with 4 "columns". To the left is a graphic file, then some text, and then two more graphic elements. I think of making the graphic elements into user defined tags. But I have not fount how to make this header block. Can anyone give me a little explanation on how to do this, and may be a recipie?

There exists a flash video tutorial which shows how you can transform your current layout in a CMSms theme

Maybe it helps ...

I agree Cyberman! And that video was also what made me understand how to build my own templates and stylesheets instead of hacking and changing in the example templates/stylesheets. Before I saw that video I didn't have a clue of how or where to start!
