Hello,
I'm using CMSms 1.0.4 and I am looking for a possibility to allow a certain group to access certain content items.
So let's assume that we have the following configuration:
Groups:
Admin (no restrictions)
PR
Users:
Admin_User
PR_User_1
PR_User_2
Content items:
Home
News
So now I want to permit the group 'PR' to modify 'News' (not delete, not add, just modify).
I searched the web, of course, and I also played around with the "Additional Editors" field, but
I did not find a way to grant the 'PR' group a permission to the 'News' page.
Also OK would it be to allow a certain user (not group) to modify a certain page.
This feature is crucial. If I cannot work it out, I will have to use another CMS, which would be
really, really a pity!! Please help me. Is this feature not contained in the current release or couldn't I find it?

If there's a way to do what you're asking, I haven't a clue on how to do it. As far as I know, the admin permissions system is not so fine-grained as to enable the type of access control you're looking for. Basically, through group permissions, you can grant a group the permission to edit pages. But, then they can edit all pages. Same for all the other types of things you're looking to set up.

If you check out the permission to edit pages you can give access to pages on a user basis, check the options tab and mark the user as a editor for that page...
hope this helps

Re: Allowing users to edit only certain content items
Thanks. Yes, it is possible to grant access to certain users. It works but it is a workaround, not an optimal solution because I will have to give permissions to each user (belonging to an imaginary group) individually, instead of assigning permissions to a whole group.
I will wait for one or two days. Then I will post a feature request or a usability issue (hey, nobody could find it
), respectively.
The permission system is one of the most important parts of a CMS that is to be employed for a website with many (partly unexperienced) authors.

Re: Allowing users to edit only certain content items
How about making two groups, one for PR_News and one for PR_Home or whatever pages. Users can be assigned to more than one group, but you would only have to assign permissions at the group level. As you add new users, you would, at that time, assign the user to one or more groups.

Re: Allowing users to edit only certain content items
Actually, granting a permission to edit a certain page is not possible on group level yet. It seems that I'm not the only one who's trying to do that. Hence, I will now add a feature request. You may then look at it and add your own suggestions.
