unable to add template & other noobie woes

Post by biliousfrog »

Firstly, I'd like to say hi...first post an' all that :)

Secondly, I'd like to appologise for being one of those irritating people that uses dreamweaver & knows very little real html except how to use iframes :-[

I'll come straight to the point, I used to design & run pretty but simple websites for local business's but stopped about 2yrs ago because I got fed up with the constant updates & because I've been too busy with freelance 3d & illustration work (which I prefer). I've just been approached by a company who spotted my (very out of date) website & would like a quote for a website that they can update themselves. In the past I have turned work away but as I'm trying to start my own VFX company & because I've discovered CMSms I thought that I might have a chance.... :-\

I won't ask for step by step advice as that's simply not fair but I am having some problems with getting my head around a few things, especially as I'm quite out of touch with doing websites.

The most frustrating thing so far has been the following error:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /admin/addtemplate.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
I got this when I tried to add a new template. I was copying some steps outlined in another post for using code from a DW template. I set all permissions as per the setup instructions, could there be a problem elsewhere?

ok, a little bump & an update......

I've spent a good hour or so with tech support checking my server, file permissions & going through my admin pages to recreate the error. They seem to think that it's a problem with CMSms as the sever side of things is running as it should. I have just completely wiped the installed directory (public_html), downloaded the setup files again & made a fresh install, deleted the database & I still get the same error.

Has nobody else ever experienced this or know why it might be happening? I've altered some of the CSS to fit my needs but unless I can alter a template I can't use CMSms. :'(

I might have found a solution....I created an .htaccess file as described here: http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/index.ph ... l#msg51639

so far, it seems to have done the trick ;D
