Another file permissions lament - please help if possible

Post by pwg »

Hi,

I’m using CMSMS 1.04 as admin user and have been merrily going along. This is my fifth CMSMS site, so whilst I’m in no way experienced, I have used the system before.

All of a sudden, with no discernable change on my part, I’m being locked out of changing files (templates, stylesheets etc) by a 403 You don't have permission to access /admin/edittemplate.php on this server.

I had been working on this particular site previously with no problems.

Strangely, the error is more common when I’m cutting and pasting complete files from outside editor, say Dreamweaver.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for any help,

Paul

I'd check the CHMOD settings on the files. It could be the server has some weird setting on them.

I sometimes get problems if my admin folder has too lenient CHMOD settings (Seems my host wants to keep things secure :)
Note: I don't have time to take on any more projects. I'm quite busy. I may be too busy to reply to emails or messages. Thanks for your understanding. :)

Thanks for the reply, and now another silly question for you. Sorry about that...

What are the correct CHMOD settings?

Cheers,

Paul

I think 755 would be good. Other people might know better though. ;)

Hi Elijah,

Thanks for that. It hasn't worked, but i have emailed my hosting company to see if anything has changed.

Cheers,

Paul
