Just wondering if anyone would be interested (and is experienced enough) in a paid project developing a classifieds module for CMSMS? If there is any interest, I will put together some detailed requirements and add to this thread, and you can email me with further questions and/or costs involved.
Would like to get this scoped and costed within a week if that's possible.
Thanks,
Dave
Paying project: Anyone interested in developing a classifieds module?
Re: Paying project: Anyone interested in developing a classifieds module?
Please ask calguy1000. He's one of the main developer of CMSms.deeve007 wrote: Just wondering if anyone would be interested (and is experienced enough) in a paid project developing a classifieds module for CMSMS?
If I'm right he has currently a little bit time and will be happy about your request

Re: Paying project: Anyone interested in developing a classifieds module?
So how do I get in touch with calguy1000? Or else he or anyone else can post that they're interested here and I'll write out the requirements.
Cheers,
Dave

Classifieds Module requirements
Please email me on dave69 at gmail dot com if interested. Let me know your relative experience in developing modules and such for CMSMS.
Thanks.
----- Overview -----
Enable the creation of a classifieds section that will allow public users to post ads, and if notification option chosen by Admin an email to be sent to an Admin notifying of new ad posted, and Admin user to "approve" for ad to go live. The module should be set up so that different classifieds sections can be added throughout the site.
This is not a classifieds site only, hence why the use of a classifieds specific CMS is not appropriate. The classifieds sections are merely one part of a larger site.
If this can be constructed using predominantly pre-existing modules or the like, but requiring some minor changes to functionality, then please advise so we can discuss. Budget will be an issue here, unfortunately.
Following are detailed specs for this project. I have tried to be as clear as possible, but please don't hesitate to question any part of it, nor to advise on something that might be done better or more efficiently.
What is required is development of module and clear step-by-step instructions for installation into CMS.
----- Front end functionality - viewing classifieds -----
The site is not a "classifieds" site as such, but does have sections that contain classified ads. When a user arrives at the site, they navigate to one of these sections/pages (eg. real estate, vehicles, home goods) upon which their first stop will be a normal content page, with an overview of this subject area. They will then be able to click on a "classifieds" nav link that will take them to the classifieds page of that section.
In this section they will see the classifieds relevant to this section only. They will be able to browse via categories and sub-categories, which can be any depth (or at least 3 deep, if smarter to limit - please advise). There will also be a simple search field allowing them to search both titles and descriptions within that classifieds section.
The categories and sub-categories should output as an unordered list to allow for CSS formatting. The list should carry the ID of the classified section (eg. "Real Estate" would produce the ID "realestate"). Or else if an easier method of assigning an ID for CSS styling developer to advise.
Each category and sub-category may also have a thumbnail image. This should simply be within the , appearing before the title. This will be styled by CSS.
When navigating to a sub-category, the user should then be presented with a list of items for sale or a further list of sub-categories. Breadcrumb type nav should appear at top of classifieds area to allow return to top level.
A list of available items should be an unordered list, with alternate CLASS attributes for each second one to allow for alternate CSS styling for each item. Each item should show linked title of item.
OPTIONAL (dependant on dev complexity, so please discuss): List might also show a small thumbnail of item image, or if no image then a "default" image placeholder. Please advise as not a requirement, but might be good if it means adding minimal time to development.
Each ad should display the following set fields:
- Title (text field, character limited 50 characters or specified via Admin if minimal dev time)
- Summary (text field, character limited 200 characters or specified via Admin if minimal dev time)
- Description (text area, character limited 2000 characters or specified via Admin if minimal dev time)
- Price (text field, allows both numerical and text to allow for "negotiable" for example, character limited 50 characters or specified via Admin if minimal dev time)
- Images (up to 4 per item, file size limit to limit server space used)
Plus the Admin user should be able to create other fields.
Note: Due to different site sections perhaps requiring different fields dependant on type of product, might be advisable to have each instance of the classifieds module being completely separate from others, though developer can advise of best solution during scope of project.
There may also be a small "contact" form below the full ad for anonymous contact to seller. The appearance of the contact form will depend on option chosen by seller when submitting ad (outlined below). The form will have the following fields:
- email (text field, check for correctly formatted email address)
- telephone (text field)
- message (text area, compulsory)
At least one of "email" and "telephone" should be filled in, along with compulsory message field.
----- Front end functionality - submitting classifieds -----
A user within a section (eg. "Real Estate") will have an option to submit an ad for that section only. They will click on a "submit ad" link, which will forward them to a form page with the following fields, as outlined previously:
- Title (compulsory)
- Summary (compulsory)
- Description (compulsory)
- Price (compulsory)
- Image upoad fields (optional)
+ other fields as created via Admin
User submits form and is presented with a message informing him that ad has been submitted for approval (message editable via Admin).
----- Admin functionality -----
The classifieds module should be relatively pain free to install for someone familiar with CMS application.
The Admin user will be able to choose on which page or which area of the site a classifieds section will appear. They will be able to specify a classifieds type or title (eg. "Real Estate", "Vehicles", "Home Products" ...etc). They will also be able to specify sub-categories and sub-sub-categories for this classifieds.
The Admin user will be able to upload an optional image for each category and sub-category.
The Admin user will have the option of ads requiring approval before going live, or going live automatically.
If approval option chosen, Admin user must provide an email address for notification of posted ads. A simple text email will be sent to address when an ad is posted in the section.
The Admin will then choose what fields to allow for a product. Fields that will always appear are:
- Tile
- Summary
- Description
- Price
- Image uploads (4)
The Admin user will be able to add more fields if desired.
The Admin user will be able to select to time limit ads. Default should be "0" which would mean no time limit, otherwise the number specified will equal number of days for ad to appear FROM APPROVAL DATE. After this time, ad should be deleted from system, and if possible associated images from server. Please advise on this.
There needs to be some sort of Admin interface for viewing and approval of "pending" ads. Be advised that the Admin person creating the classifieds section will not be the same one Administrating ads, so needs to be usable by a non-technical user.

Re: Paying project: Anyone interested in developing a classifieds module?
I'm feeling a little left in the lurch at the moment. I make a request for paying work - which I think most would agree is putting something back into the community (especially since I haven't yet used CMSMS for any project) - and then the one person that responds that they're interested I don't hear back from for over a week.
If you can't do the job fine, then I know and I can look elsewhere. But saying you can, then not responding despite repeated requests, is a little unprofessional imho.
And sorry, posting on this board may be unprofessional, but I've mentioned no names, and my emails have gone unresponded.
Apologies if someone close to you has an illness, or you have been locked away somewhere with no access to emails, but you might understand my frustration with being left in the dark.
In the end, the use of an open source product at an enterprise level is really dependant on the follow through of assistance offered. At this stage I'm now probably doing the project in Joomla, simply because they have more modules available AND the forum responds well to requests for help. And take this as constructive criticism please, which is its intention. I've been involved in the development of online sites and applications for over a decade, as a designer, project manager and account manager, so I hope I would have some validity in the comments I offer.
Cheers,
Dave
