XStandard WYSIWYG editor module releases

Post by dfritschy »

I have released version 1.0 of the XStandard WYSIWYG editor module.

XStandard is a XHTML 1.1 Strict compliant editor, see http://www.xstandard.com. It comes in a free and a professional version (the latter with spell checking and image and document handling), both being supported by this module.

The module has been developed for and tested under 0.9.2, where it works fine under IE and Firefox. Unfortunately, under 0.10 Beta there are display problems with Firefox.

You can get the module in the WIKI or directly here: [ftp]ftp://ftp.fritschy.ch/cmsms/xstandard.zip[/ftp].

I am looking forward to your comments and suggestions.

OK, install is fine. Also downloaded Xstandard lite - but just got an .exe file - how do I get into my CMSms?

Simply double-click the EXE, it will then install the XStandard component. Once this has been done, the component is recognized in CMSMS. Make sure to activate the editor in the User Preferences.

I tried the XStandard module and it seems to work fine. However the free version is a bit limited when it comes to image handling.

I found another editor that is based on the same principle (must be installed on client). Would it be possible to integrate this? I think the lite version has more features than XStandard.

Full version of KTML seems to be a paid version as well. There is a light version which is free but it does not include the CSS, Property Inspector and Spellchecker modules.

Over at Robert Nyman is a useful report on WYSIWYG editors. XStandard is probably one of the best, as well as TinyMCE and one editor that I did not know before called widgEditor (http://www.themaninblue.com/experiment/widgEditor/) by Cameron Adams, well known as themaninblue.com for CSS and standard compliant solutions. Would be nice to see this one implemented into CMSMS as well but I am really satisfied with XStandard. Great work dfritschy!

Stupid me: forgot the link to Robert Nyman: http://www.robertnyman.com/2005/05/17/wysiwyg-hell/
