Adding news to CSSMenu top + 2 columns template

Happy new year to everyone!

I'm struggling to add the news module to the left-hand column of the  CSSMenu top + 2 columns template. What am I missing?

The default install template has this in it...

Look in Extensions > Modules and click the word News or Help to get more parameters ...

     
     
        {content block='Sidebar'}  This Content block should show up on when editing the page, Sidebar: you can put the {news} tag in it or put it under this in template for it to show up on every page that uses this template, I put it in the Edit mode so I can change pages w/o it
