template selection

When logged into admin, the options available in the default installation shown under layout > templates show 5 templates under ‘Current Templates’ with a tick against one under the heading ‘default’.  When I change the ticked template to one of the others, and then click on ‘View Site’ there appears to be no change in the screen display.  Is there something else I need to do, other than just ticking one of the templates, in order to view the effect of selecting a different template to be the default?

Where you were was for the default when making new content/pages...

To set/change the template all pages will use, go to the templates page to the right you will see "set all pages" this will change all pages to the template you choose...
