File upload problem

Hey!

I am new to this CMS thing and I have set up a site and it works well - although someone was trying to upload a file through the File Management section and it said, "File could not be uploaded. Permissions problems?"

I tried myself (as I am the Admin with all privileges) and I still get the same error!

What have I missed?

Make sure that you have write permissions (777) to the uploads directory.

Do I make sure I have the permissions through the CMS application?.....I can FTP files to the folder, but when I try using CMS I get the permissions error.....

Well, remember that just because you can ftp files up doesn't mean it will work through CMS.  Your user(ottawa_dave) and the user that the web server runs as (usually www-data) are different.  So, if you're the only one with writing permission to your uploads directory, then it's not going to work.  Make sure that the permissions on that one directory are wide open enough for anyone to write to it.
