Disabling the page for public, but still viewable for users

Post by dennis05 »

Hi!

We're in the process of filling out cms with contents. We'd like to hide the website from public access while we're still working on the webpage. In admin options, there is a way to disable the whole site for maintenance. Is there any way how I can activate this option, but let my users still view the whole website for reviewing and checking? is there some trick to do this with the maintenance option or some other trick?

cheers....

I create a separate template for 'under construction' and make sure the navigation is deleted.  I then create a new page using this template and set it as the default, usually with some text saying the site will soon be online etc.  So when you go to the domain - this "as con" page appears with no menu - so public won't see other links.  For those in the know, you can still view all the pages by going to one of the behind the scenes pages eg:  http://www.yoursite.com/index.php/home (or whatever you have named one of your pages) - you will then be able to navigate around.  8)

ps depending on how you have your site set up eg pretty urls or not, the address to type in the browser may differ from my example above.
