Module Directory Can't be deleted

Hi All,
  I installed cms made simple helping my friend to develp a site, the hosting is ixwebhosting. But after I upload the Catalog Module, I can't delete it using my ftp program. Later I contact their tech support and they said the files there are owned by httpd so I can't delete it. I then need to post a trouble ticket to their admin to change the permission.
  As I read the help document in the wiki here, I found that's related to the file's umask setting, so in the future how can I prevent this problem happen again, what value should I set for the File Creation Mask(umask) under the Global Settings in the Admin Panel?

  I lost some sleep on this and thanks for your help.
