Speed issues with CMSMS

Post by scotch33 »

One customer site that I have running CMSMS is running very very slow.  On the same server (another part of the customer's site) other elements such as OScommerce are running fine.

The site is large but not massive - 24 pages with a series of subpages.  There is an extensive news section and I am also running PHPBB on the same database.

The site seems to have slowed as the customer has used it so I am really interested in the following..

has anyone else experienced speed issues?
where would be a good place to start to try to pinpoint what the problem is?

I have just upgraded to the latest version on this site.

Thanks!

John.

PHP needs a kick in the pants sometimes.  CMSMS is code heavy (it's getting better), but it really does well with some kind of opcode caching installed on the server.  I use eAccelerator on this server and it speeds things up at least 10x.

I really thing any production server running PHP should have an opcode cache of some sort.

If that's not an option, then make sure that there aren't modules that don't get used installed and that the cache is cleared.
