Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

Install ok but sample site shows no content - headers/menu are all ok...

Post by Nemo »

Hi all,

Have just installed the latest version (1.0.2) on a Microsoft Server running IIS 6.  Not sure what PHP or MySQL versions (sorry) but assume versions 4 for both I think.

Site works fine, I can navigate around the sample site useing the menus etc. Admin pages are all good but I have this odd problem.

From the attached image you can see the 'Home' title and immediately underneath is the 'Next Page -  How CMSMS works' link.

I can preview the contents which works fine (I see the 'Congratulations' text in the preview) but the actual page contents are only MISSING from the live site...

I have 16MB memory available so I don't think that is the problem.  Can anyone help.

how do I read the log files.... are they 'off' by default as it doesn't seem to generate any.

thanks for any help.

Wow...

This is scary... I am a Firefox user and this problem appears to be caused by the fact I am using Firefox....

I checked the site with IE6 and it works 100%.

What else is weird is that when I view the source HTML, the content is missing in Firefox!! (Version 1.5.0.7).

Is the browser dynamically creating this page?

Note that I haven't changed anything yet... this is the defaul sample site on a brand new install.

Also note that when I view my local site in Firefox it is absolutely fine (I have a local install which probably has differing PHP/MYSQL Versions) .

There is obviously something happening between my Firefox browser and my website server that doesn't agree.

Don't sweat answering this one too soon as I can work in IE6 for now but I will obviously have Firefoxx users visiting this site when it goes live.

thanks for any help :)

UPDATE - Since posting this I was happily usng IE for about 10 minutes and now its not working on IE either.... very wierd.

Have you checked your config.php file for strange /  \ in the paths?

Window servers act wierd some times, if you search the forum you will find some info/help for setting it up.

Hi,

thanks for the info but I checked these and they all seem fine.  I even reinstalled to no avail.

The debug doesn't seem to suggest any errors.

I have this running on a Linux system and this works great (no, I can't just use that one :) ).

please help...

It seems that sometimes it works with IE but most of the time it doesn't.... :(

UPDATE - I have just checked this on a Blackberry device and it works fine??? - could it be in the stylesheet?

try disabling all stylesheets (maybe create a new template without any stylesheets and set it to all pages) then check your site again. if it is a css problem this way you should see everything.

Thanks tsw,

I tried what you suggested but it still is the same problem.

There must be something specific with my server configuration.  These are all the default templates etc. and it works fine on my Windows local machine and on a remote Linux server.

Perhaps it is something to do with permissions or more likely some kind of memory problem or version problem (with PHP or MySQL)?

I switched on the Debug but everything looked ok.  When I preview the page it comes up fine.

Is there anything I can switch on which will tell me what happened other than the Debug?

If I posted the Debug would that help diagnose the problem?

I do appreciate all the suggestions, I'll try anything at this stage  :)

Weird...I got exactly the same problem. First I though it was a database error, but wasn't.

My Issue is 100% the same as Nemo described it. Content is not appearing in Firefox. (not even in the source code)

I attached two files, one is the phpinfo from the local installation [where it works] and one from the online installation [where it doesn't work].

i hope someone can analyze it.

Just a quick note to highlight that my problem now exists in IE6 too (tried on several machines)
It is visible through a blackberry browser (even in MS IE Emulation mode)

It seems that there is something clever happening to determine which browser I am using as the layout for my page alters when viewed through the Blackberry.  Where can I check this out (sorry for being a noob).

oh.. and one other thing...after tinkering with it for a while...it seems to bring the server to a crawl for about 5 minutes (oops).

er.... little help?

There is no error in the log. There must be something wrong in the core of cmsms, otherwise I have no clue what's wrong. I've rechecked the source output from both browsers (FF1.5 and IE6), and both outputs are almost identical. There are some line break differences and the content that doesn't appear.

I also found out that besides the content, the whole news doesn't appear to.

If you use preview in the "edit page" section, then everything is fine. But once you start navigating in the preview then the content doesn't display again.

And to not get confused about the term "content" I use. It's everything that is stored in the field "content" in the "cms_content_props" table.

hmm, only place I know is browser specific is some css rules.

and gzip compression might be too, but it would affect everything.

this is one of those problems that one has to see on their own site to start debugging. and I cant replicate this anywhere...
