Godaddy hosting?

Just wondering if Godaddy hosting has some parameter set so CMSMS does not run well? I had the latest version installed on Godaddy and had problems like check boxes dissappearing, locking up and a "no input file" error.

Today, I installed it on a regular linux server and it works without a flaw.

Uhm... godaddy is not the best hosting solution. Cheap does not always equal good. I've heard horror stories about them deleting accounts and when the customer complains they say they have no record of that account. I really only trust godaddy with my domain registrations, never hosting.

OK, thanks, but I was  wondering  if there are some particular issues with Godaddy that's different from the typical linux webhosts.

Your hosted on a cluster and not one individual box. Sometimes content doesn't replicate between the server correctly. Somettimes the database isn't in sync with other server, permissions issues, etc. I can imagine a ton of cluster issues just from my work experience.

I got Godaddy hosting for testing  purposes since they had a hosting special.  I have had another  a very good linux host for three years now so  moved the cmsms install to them and it runs great.

I just installed CMSMS on GoDaddy using a free Linux php hosting account. When I view my site in Firefox 2.0 it looks awful - all of the CSS is gone. At first, I thought that CMSMS was a bit under-developed, but then I viewed the same site in IE6 and it looks great. I downloaded and installed some templates from http://themes.cmsmadesimple.org and those themes had the same issue - in Firefox it looks bad, but in IE it looks good.

It appears as though my installation of CMSMS is good...I'm not sure if how Godaddy includes their ads at the top of the page is the issue or what.

My plan is to move the site to another host at some point but I wanted to add this post in case anyone else experiences this issue. Take a look and let me know if it looks good in both Firefox and IE for you: http://www.xarart.com

that's probably because you've used 'free' hosting. These type of gimmicks always suck bigtime. The error is because their damn ads are loaded on every page, even your stylesheet:

Move your stuff over to a decent webhost. If you can't find any or don't have the financial resources for it, PM me and I'll set up a free account for you on my webhosting, without any ads or such

Thanks, amygdela! That makes sense now...the CSS is being messed up when GoDaddy inserts their ads as the CSS file is retrieved.  I guess IE can overlook some of that extra stuff (GoDaddy ads) to make the CSS work. I have another host that I use, but I thought I'd try GoDaddy's free hosting since I have so many free hosting credits built up from registering my domains with them.

I love GoDaddy for domain registration and like GoDaddy's free hosting for file storage. I maintain a church Web site that is hosted on a server that isn't GoDaddy, and I use a free GoDaddy account to store the MP3 files for the sermons each week. This way we can store a bunch of MP3 files and not eat up the Web space & bandwidth from the church's Web host. But I haven't had much luck with GoDaddy's Web hosting (paid or free) except for very simple, page-driven Web sites.

I've set up many CMSMS sites using GoDaddy, and through my reseller account with GoDaddy, using shared hosting accounts and they work fine...from version .13 to 1.0.4. Interestingly, I've had the most consistent performance results using their economy plan vs. their deluxe plan.

With that said I am not satisfied with GoDaddy because of the following:

>Their horrible support...specifically their generally unqualified, condescending, and unhelpful tech support (just like 1and1...but I guess I shouldn't expect more for their prices).
>Inconsistent performance...a post in this thread stated that their hosting accounts are on volumes spread across clusters...based on my interaction with them I don't think this is the case. I wish it was since that should thoretically provide most stable and consistant performance. I've found a huge variance in performance on different hosting accounts I set up with them on the deluxe level in particular. If you get on a server with a bad neighbor they hog all your resources and your performance tanks, and GoDaddy is too uncaring or their tech too unknowledgeable to help even when escalated to their "Advanced Support Team" (who doesn't even bother to respond btw")
>Low PHP memory allocation (2MB) and max upload size.

I'm looking for a big hosting company with multiple data centers who I can find reasonably affordable shared hosting and who has decent service. I've tried GoDaddy, 1and1, and iPower and I'm still looking....any suggestions would be appreciated.

Why a "big" hosting company? I've had my share of those and definitely prefer smaller companies for quality of service and no overselling where possible.

asmallorange.com has a great rep, as does my newly current host budgetreseller.com. Fairly priced plans, no overselling, and great service.

Oh, and budgetresller.com has a discount coupon, using BR020 I think (or BR20), it was 20% the first year.

I currently have a reseller account (modest-sized to host my clients' websites) with The Prime Host Web Hosting.  No service is absolutely perfect, but I have found their support to be good, they have a great support forum in addition to their regular support and their prices are great!

I don't necessarily care how "big" a hosting company is as long as they...

Yikes, godaddy. And their silly "banned" super bowl ads. Really terrible customer support - I mean the first red flag might be that they don't have an 800 # for tech support so you are at their mercy if they put you through "on hold hell" and they always send you through a protocoll no matter what your issue is. Like they want to weed you out based on your patience rather than fix the problem.

I prefer hostasaurus. They are small and really nice.
