Newsletter Made Simple - Problems with confirm mails (links)

Post by okulyth »

Hello,

for www.somersetwest.net/dev I want to use NMS. I am running CMSMS 0.13, CMSmailer 1.73.10 and NMS 1.0-Beta3.

After finding out that (in this case/serversettings/whatsoever) it works only with 'sendmail' and setting the charset to 'utf-8' for proper diplayed 'umlaute' (äöüß...) I now tried out the different forms to

supscripe to the newsletter
unsupscripe from the newletter
change user preferences

Supscripe to the newsletter:
A new entry with the new recipient is added to the userlist. The confirmation mail is send to the recipient. when the link in that mail is clicked, the browser is opening showing just the homepage of the side. so there is no confirmation happening.

unsupscripe from newsletter
after clicking the link in the received mail it shows the main frame of the webpage with this in the content area:
>>Error!
>>One or more required parameters are missing from the request. This action cannot proceed
The link looks like this: http://www.somersetwest.net/dev/index.p ... eturnid=58

change user preferences
same procedure like in 'unsupscripe'.

Can anyone help me getting this up and running? Thank you for your help!

ah, okay, now this seems like the best description of this problem I've had yet..... very interesting.

I think it has to do with smarty replacing & with &  in the links it generates.  As I don't have to set the charset stuff I don't encounter this problem on my host, I've tested nearly a dozen times.

I'll look into this, I think I have an idea.

Hmmm, I forgot to tell, I had this problem with the default charset as well. Does that helps you? Propably makes it only more difficult.

some have reported that this problem is also related to the mail client.  they say that on some mail clients they don't get the & issue.

I am using Outlook ... 2002 I think. Are you shure it has something to do with the & ? What would be the right way to fix it (and still having my 'umlaute' for all the german users that this page is adressed to)?

I'm not sure :)    the link in the message is supposed to have & instead of &

I just tested with latest svn (default charset) and sent the email to hotmail and had no difficulties.

what did you do to change the charset ?

I just changed 'Message Charset:' to 'utf-8' in the Settings tab of the module control panel. So if I would could get rid of the & and just have & in the mailed link it would be fine? ... but how to get that out there ...

I tried it out with this iso-...-1 charset, makes no difference. this & is produced somewhere else. Maybe in the CMSMailer Modul? Or no, this is just supposed to send what the other modules are creating, so it must be somewhere in the NMS Module. I took the link and replaces the & with just &. Then everything is fine and it shows a response in the page/module/database (unsubscribing deletes user).

So where to hell is this amp; coming from? I am just a Pixelpusher, I have no idea. Help.      help                                  help        ...

The SVN version of NMS (requires 1.0B1 or later) has some wrappers to try to take care of this issue, I'll release a beta release of NMS if anybody has a 1.0 install that they can test with.

Hi got the same problem here. Would like to test with 10b6, but how do I get the new code? Can you make a zip file or similar for me to download somewhere? Sorry, do not know how to use svn.

@okolyth
Thanks for the hint. Unfortunatly when I download the snapshot and decompress I just get one big file of ca 1MB, no directories or files. Clearly I am doing something wrong, but what? I'm running XP and using UltimateZip that supports tar.gz files (used it before with no problems).

@calguy1000
given my lack of succes with svn: yes,  please do make a zip file for me to test. Thanks.

@ Der Rudi:
well then try the .zip file that is offered for download there. I am using stuffit expander for .tar.gz files. works fine so far.

@okolyth
Thanks for the help. I must be blind, but do not find the zip file in the forge for nms. Can you give the exact url for download, thanks.
