php 8 again - cmsms upgrade useless?

Post by horki »

Hi,
as other users here I have problems with my website, if I change from php 7.4. to 8. (fatal errors, a lot of warnings, white screen)
My cmsms version is 2.2.14.
As I learned from some postings here, problems are still there, if the latest cmsms version 2.2.16 is installed, because of smarty (smarty 4 ist required, but not yet implemented). So upgrading to 2.2.16 does not help?
Did I understand this correctly? (I am no cms specialist and no native english)

So one has to wait for the version 2.2.17, with hopefully smarty 4 ? And meanwhile pay for "Extended php 7.4. support" at my provider?

Thanks for informations!

2.2.16 should run on PHP 8.0. A new release with 8.1 support is imminent, but we ran into some issues that are being resolved now.
You'll still want to test any third-party modules in a dev environment before upgrading.

Thanks!
Ref modules:
I learned that the MenuManager is no longer recommended. So one should use Navigator instead. Is Navigator in the 2.2.16 version available? At the moment in the 2.2.14 version I can not find it in the module-library.
And if I use Navigator, I might get problems with my template, which is also some years old?

Navigator is included with all cmsms versions from 2.0 on. If you've deleted it you can freshen the install or upgrade, it should reinstall.
It doesn't use the same template structure as MM because it now does recursion, but it's usually trivial to adapt one of the sample templates to match your MM one.
