Here is another unfavorable side effect of "hide url" which appeared after updating LISE: I was clicking a content page in the page navigation. But instead of opening the content page, it redirected to a detail view of a LISE item on a different content page.
What happened? Because "hide url" is activated after updating LISE, new URLs will be generated automatically for all items, based on the item alias - even if there was no custom URL inserted before the update. In this case one of the generated item URLs was accidentally identical to a content page alias. And there is no control if a generated url is unique.
Generally I like the new hide fields feature because some editors/clients are confused what to do with it and could insert invalid stuff. But In my opinion this would make more sense:
To hide the url field should mean "not to use it at all - no auto generated url, just take the normal system (or pretty) url".
LISE 1.4.2 Another side effect after update: Identical URL
Re: LISE 1.4.2 Another side effect after update: Identical URL
If you set an URL Prefix in the Options panel you will avoid conflicts with content page alias/URL's.
Re: LISE 1.4.2 Another side effect after update: Identical URL
But is the URL Prefix inserted in the URL Template field?
Re: LISE 1.4.2 Another side effect after update: Identical URL
Nope. I didn't use custom url because in earlier versions it sometimes caused issues. And the way to deactivate custom url was to leave the URL template field empty. Then you also get a unique (pretty) url as .../my-prefix/my-alias/10.html
btw: the problem of URL is changed to alias on item edit is also reported in the bug tracker:
