Integrating administration of other applications

Post by jah »

I started thinking about this when I read the Subject access to directories based on referrer and passwor http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/index.ph ... 319.0.html.

The idea is that an admin can add buttons in the admin menu. These buttons can link to other pages that are relevant for the users of the CMS.

The URL from the button could include user and password to the other site (http://username:password@www.mysite.com/mypath). I know I would love to have this link from CMS to the adminpage of my hosting company. Perhaps it is also possible to open the pages inside CMS with the CMS menu on the left.

Another application of this would be to have a loose integration of scripts that are not modules in the system. Simply integrate the script with fetchurl or iFrame and integrate the admin page from the CMS admin page.

Hopefully, the availability of the buttons could be integrated into the general permission system.

I think this should be quite easy to implement, or am I wrong? Anyone else seeing advantages of this kind of functionality?
