How do you install a theme?

Post by devilslayer »

Hello all,

I have just installed CMS Made Simple 0.13 and it installed without any problems.

I then tried to install a theme from http://themes.cmsmadesimple.org/

I downloaded and01.zip unzipped it and read the documentation provided which said:

"copy the images to

uploads/images/templates/and01"

I copied the images and then tried to import the css file and template file using the theme manager. I go the following error

"Error!

DTD Version mismatch, cannot import"

I also tried to install one of the framework files wireframe1colwnews.xml

I got the following error:

"Error!

Problem saving the files encoded in the theme."

I can alter the basic css of the original design but i would like to install and try some of the themes others have provided.

Thank You for any help given.

Could you please give a step by step of how you tried to install these templates?

Hello Mark,

I basically did it as per my post above.

I downloaded the and01.zip file and unzipped it.

I then used filezilla to upload the 2 images to the directory stated in the readme (As listed above)

I then went to the theme manager and tried to upload the .css file and the .tpl file

The other files in that zip have to opened with a word proccessor I would recommend notepad or my fave PSPad editor it handles all forms of documents with out adding any extra formatting which may happen if you use word.

Basically open the files and then log in to your site and go to Templates click Add New Template now you can name it whatever you like then copy/paste the info. from the template you opened, click submit, you will need to activate it, go to Templates and find the new one you will notice the column Active, across from the new one click this, it will have nothing there or a red X which will turn into a green check.

For the CSS open it and then go to Stylesheets and click Add a Stylesheet, same proccess as template, name you want and copy/paste click submit, it needs no activation.

Now go to Templates again and on the right side you see an orange CSS symbol click this, then you need to find the CSS stylesheet you just added in the drop down for Add New CSS and hilite it and it should show in the drop down click the Add New CSS button and you should be good to go.

If the zip file has a file that ends in .mm you need to rename it to have a .txt extension so you can open it in notepad, then you need to go to Layout » Menu Manager and click Add Template and it's the same routine, name it , copy/paste, submit, the name needs to be exactly like it is called out in the Template.

When you want to use it go to make a new page or edit an existing one and choose this new template in the drop down for Template: ....

    enjoy  ;)

Thank You for that Mark.

I am used to using notepad so hopefully it shouldn't be a problem.

I know basic CSS. It is just the browser bugs (Peekaboo, double float, Conditional Comments etc etc that i need to learn).

So what does the theme Manager do? I thought that was to upload themes to similar to the way you upload templates in Joomla?

It is used that way but the file needs to be .XML for it to work, some of the themes have been uploaded as .zip so we have to work with what we get.

How does the CMS Made Simple deal with the Box model problems? Or is that something to get your CSS file to do?
