File Manager Folder Missing

Post by davedinburgh »

Using CMS Made Simple 1.12 "Pohnpei" on Windows XP.

The problem I am having is that some folders where I store files and images seem to have disappeared. They are listed under File Management but when I click on the link to take me to a folder I get the following error

Not Found

The requested URL was not found on this server.

This means I cannot upload documents to these folders to be able to update our website. The folders are there as i can still make links to them when editing pages. I just cant open them in the file manager section.

I am not great at all of this and dont know much about code so please go easy on me :)

If it helps my email address is david@scottishadoption.org

Thanks in advance.

UPDATE

It seems that there are quite a few broken links now. When I click on other links just navigating around CMS I get the same error as above?

Why would this be?

Because the problem doesn't seem CMSMS related
Because you're using outdated software
Because you're not giving enough details
...

Requesting a file with a direct url does not involve CMS Made Simple.

Had similar trouble with a client host some times ago.

Please check your config.php if there's an entry with a system path. If yes - check if the path is correct.

You can also try a plain fresh install with CMSMS 1.12.x and check if it works there ...

Thank you Chandra for your help, I shall try and see if I can do what you say. I appreciate you taking the time to get in touch with your tips.

Velden - Stop wasting my time and your time with your unhelpful comments. What's the point of being on the message boards if you are not going to help others.

It might not be as unhelpful as you seem to think it is.

Then you could have said it in a less condescending way and explained why.

I understood from your posts you have a lot of broken links 'when browsing CMS'. I assumed it is front end? If it's in CMSMS admin only then I misunderstood.

If it's front end too AND involving urls to e.g. an image file (e.g.: 'http://www.example.com/uploads/images/foo.jpg') then it doesn't seem CMSMS related.

That said, using Windows XP and CMSMS 1.12 shows you don't seem to think keeping software up to date is important. Both Windows XP and CMSMS 1.12 are not supported products.

Further, you don't supply much information. E.g. the CMSMS Sytem Information is missing.

Finally, you're SHOUTING, which is generally considered impolite behavior.

When wasting/offering my spare time to help others I at least expect some efforts (supplying details, using up to date products) and politeness from the other one too.

I do think keeping software updated is important, my problem is I work for a small charity where money is tight and we have old computers. Not much I can do about that.

I have supplied as much information as I can, I do not understand all this systems and codes etc., as I stated in the original message, so I could only tell you what I know.

I know I was shouting as I was getting frustrated at the issues I am having a getting little help from CMS. Just wish there was a helpline I could have called to explain the problems I am having.

If you expect "some efforts" from others when you are offering help then be nice about it, not everyone is as perfect in this field as you are so have some consideration! I will be polite to those who are polite to me. Respect is earned.

Thanks for letting me know that it could be an XP issue though. I shall try and see if the issue is still there on a more up to date system. :)

You're welcome ...

The reason for trouble on my clients host was an updated CMSMS AND server system :).

Server has got a new PHP version - with different system pathes.

And CMSMS was updated some years ago from a older CMSMS version. In the past CMSMS needs the server path inside config.php but not the current one. This parameter is optional now. You can use it for special reasons but you dont need it.

Long speech, short sense - after deleting wrong system path from config.php the trouble was gone.
