Gallery: Number of items (images/folders) in sub-subfolder

Hi, here I am again.
2 years ago user 'velden' gave me a good solution for a photo gallery, to display the number of photos in a directory.

Well, now I have a similar problem, but then with a directory in a directory.

E.g.:
Folder1 (contains 2 folders and 2 images)
- Folder2 (contains 2 images)
-- Image1
-- Image2
- Folder3 (contains 2 images)
-- Image3
-- Image4
- Image5
- Image6

Image5/6 are in folder1.
Image1/2 are in folder 2, and image 3/4 are in folder3.
Folder2 and folder3 are in folder1.

When my gallery shows me a link to Folder1, I would like to see the total number of photos in the subfolders: 6.
When I open the gallery, I can see 2 images, and 2 folders (both 2 containing photos).

With velden's solution I see only the number of the 2 images , where I would like to see 6.
Anyone any idea?
