Upgrading

Post by eddyR3 »

Hi guys, im trying to upgrade an installation of CMSMS that has been violated and has malware/spamware all over the place. The problem being is im worried that reinstating the current installation, upgrading it will leave the problems on the site.

My only option has been to remove all current data, i have the database intact though. Is it possible to reuse the database since it carries all our content/templates etc whilst upgrading the core files for security reasons?

Any help at this stage would be really appreciated.

Many thanks

After back-up of files AND database, remove all files from the server. Download the files fresh from the Forge and upload them to the server. DON'T (re)install anything, it could destroy your database info.
There are several topics on this, so also do a forum search.

in case the DB is not compromised you just have to upload all files except the install folder. That would clean the infected files, and then you'd be able to upgrade following the path recommended in our docs site.
Otherwise you should have to recover from a backup (and it's a good practice to make frequent backups of both files and DB), and then do the upgrade.

As Rolf stated there are quite a few posts on this subject and some quite thorough, so a forum search is recommended.
