Install modules - fatal error [SOLVED]

Post by thomahawk »

Hello all. I have the same problem that happened here forum.cmsmadesimple.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=72241

Trying to install products module directly via module manager. Message appears listing dependencies – it seemed by installing from here, all the necessary files would be installed.

After Installation finished, all went nuts. I only get an empty page telling "fatal error" and a link to missing module CGExtension or jquerytools.

So obviously the manager installation did not install the dependent modules.

I am aware that it needs those. Unfortunately no module ever mentions an order in which to install those. However:

I already deleted the products folder, but the error remains and I have no possibility to get into the backend, it seems the manager already activated the products module, now I can not deactivate it.

What else can I do?

By the way, I am using CMSMS 1.12, the actual version and all the recent modules.

I checked the mySQL database and could not find any entry about a products module and no new dependencies.

Somehow it occurred to me to try another browser, old Safari instead of my actual Firefox, suprisingly here I got no error message, the login panel appeared and I was able to login.

Thats very strange because the fatal error seemed not like something caused by a browser, cache or cooky.

So I was able to activate CGExtensions and JQueurytools. The strange thing now is, I uploaded CGsimplesmarty on FTP, but the modules list does never show it, therefore I can not activate it.

Meanwhile, in Firefox, I still only get the error. I deleted the Firefox cache, but this did not change anything.

In Safari in installed CGsimplesmarty from the module manager, and after that it apperade in the module list and was already activated.

So I had finally all dependecies activated to upload and activate the Products module. But after activating it, I only got the same error

Code: Select all

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ''}{$name}{else}{$hierarchy3}/{' (T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING) in /home/xxx/www/xxxdomainname/modules/Products/method.install.php on line 298

Again deleting all cache in Firefox did not help, I still get only the parse error message for both frontend and backend. But in Safari, after deleting the cache, I was able to get into the backend again and could see that products module got NOT activated. I deleted the products module folder.

This time instead of FTP, I used the module manager to install the Products module. But after that, again I get only the Parse error.

OK, now I got it in Firefox, I have to quit the browser and after that, frontend and the login for the backend works again. Really, I have never experienced such behaviour before.

But now I am really stuck! I have all dependecies installed and activated, but can not activate the Products module.

Any help appreciated!
Thanks

Some CG-modules must be activated after install.
Go to Extensions - Modules to do so.

Generally speaking is the upload of the XML-file in Extensions - Modules a better way of installing modules.

I hope this helps a bit.

Kind regards,

Thanks janvl, that has all been done already without success, as I wrote above.

have you tried installing an older version of Products?
Leave CGExtensions the new version.

It is worth a try!

Great. Thank you janvl. I installed Products 2.23 instead of the recent 2.24.1 and the installation worked! Finally!

I really thought my first install with missing dependencies screwed something up. But obviously now that was not the case.

Thanks janvl, this worked for me too.

I dont think its the best way to install an older version of a module, but it fixed it for now :).
