GCB without WYSIWYG

Post by jissey »

Hi,
GCB was usually used as a content block in the "Content" section.
At least in my case, but I guess I'm not the only one.
As it had a WYSIWYG editor, it was easy to let a user (editor) modifying its content.
Now GCB is considered as a template, so without any WYSIWYG option.
I think it was not necessary to put it in the "Design" section, and it will be better to considere GCB as always : like a content block.
If we want a global template, we can include it in the main template.
Not need anithing else.
Thx
JCG

As discussed during the geekmoot:

The GCB/HTML Blob was always a smarty template. That is the way it always existed and most people in my experience used it as such.

It was usually (in our experience) used to include things like google analytics code, or page logic, or snippets of smarty logic that would be repeated on a page. Essentially, a design level element which belongs with the design. I've even seen GCB's called in module templates to pull in repeated chunks of html code or setup some smarty variables, etc.

Using GCB's with a WYSIWYG editor to allow an editor to alter some random bit of html was in my experience when logging in to hundreds of sites, a small minority of the cases.

The dev team did discuss this functionality and agree upon it well before work on the design manager began.

Nice idea for a new simple module ;)
I would be willing to make one if needed

Also, Snippets http://dev.cmsmadesimple.org/projects/snippets is close to what you need if you want something to fork.

I've heard of it some time ago, but I think it is not the best solution for this. Maybe with some modification.
