SOLVED: Installation problem - site down for maintenance

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

SOLVED: Installation problem - site down for maintenance

Post by jalasju »

Hi!

CMSMS Version: 1.11.13

I've installed many CMSMS-systems in the past. Now, after couple of years I need to do it again.

After transferring the files via FTP, I checked that the installation part starts fine. Then I went forward to the checking page and I followed these steps - https://www.astutium.com/tutorials/watc ... ormat=text - to change the proper file permissions and create the config.php-file with permissions 777. After that, I refreshed the settings checking page and only got "Site down for maintenance".

When this happened I deleted all the files from the server and uploaded them again, but now I changed the file permissions right after upload - and I didn't get the installation page at all.

Can someone please help me or even push to the right direction. Thanks in advance! :)

EDIT: I just used Filezilla and everything went fine. Thank you! :)

It shouldn't be that hard. Proper File/folder permissions should be set and that's about it.

BUT, when using FTP for uploading make sure you use a decent client (e.g. Filezilla) and that transfer mode is set to 'binary' for all file-types.

Further, when starting the install in some of the first steps you can do a checksum verification. Do that too to make sure files aren't corrupted during transfer.

Just as an additional tip: sometimes, when an upgrade goes sour, CMSMS leaves a file (named SITEDOWN) in <cmsms_root>\tmp\cache that causes this "Site down for maintenance" message to appear. This file is usually removed automatically by CMSMS after a clean upgrade. Check for this file existence and try deleting it.
