Use Active Directory with CMS?

Can active directory be used with cms for user accounts?

You should try out some kind of LDAP module to do this.
I know some portals has this option.

Did anything come of this? We maybe implementing this cms for our school intranet - an Active Directory component would be excellent for us as staff would be able to log in and make changes.
