FCK Editor gone walkabout - aarghh.

Post by mark_l_sanders »

Using the latest release; suddently the FCKEditor 1.0 RC1 doesn't appear for editing pages or creating new pages....not in Firefox, not in IE.
It's still enabled.
I've done various customisations of my own template (copied from the CSS vertical 1 col) and the associated stylesheets. None of that can have had an effect.
Where should I look? Should I uninstall and reinstall the editor (which is my impulse)?
thanks

Sure, a uninstall/reinstall can't hurt.  Also, in FF, make sure there isn't any red ! meaning javascript errors that might help track down the problem.

Unistalled and reinstalled. Here's what happens now:

In FF: no editor icons and no errors. When I check the Java Script Console, there's loads of errors. The browser status is 'Looking up modules...' for ages; no icons appear, but all the other page elements are in place.

In IE, get these errors: 'Unknown Toolbar Item: CMS Modules'; then 'Unknown Toolbar Item: CMSContent'. When I get rid of those two error dialogs, I get the icons!!!

Sounds like there's some source file error, because the editor has worked up to now.

Remove the whole modules/FCKeditorX directory and reupload it.  Sounds like there might be a duplicate file or some other thing going on there.

Unfortunately, it didn't work....
I've had a look at the db modules table; fckxtexteditor is there, in a single row. looks ok.

is there a possibility that there's a clash with 'album', do you think?

any other thoughts. is it possible to reinstall the entire cms yet keep an existing site?

I highly doubt it, but if there was, I would want to fix it.

Yes, see here: http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/index.ph ... 4.new.html

I think CMSMS 1.0 beta1 will be released tomorrow. You may want to try upgrading to that to see if it fixes your problem.

Also, you could try the TinyMCE or Xinha WYSIWYG editors (there are modules for them in the Forge). They seem to have less problems than FCKeditor.

Hope this helps,

Elijah
Note: I don't have time to take on any more projects. I'm quite busy. I may be too busy to reply to emails or messages. Thanks for your understanding. :)

thanks Elijah. i've installed XStandard, which I like, but it's quite basic. I'll play with the others you mention. I'll also uninstall Album to see if that makes any difference, and I'll let you know...
