Invalid characters in field Name

I recently upgraded to version 1.11.11 and now I get this error message when I try to update a Global Block:

"Invalid characters in field Name"

I found this response:

"Due to Smarty problems GCB names can now only contain letters, numbers or an underscore...
Rename the GCB's and in the templates and it works!"

But can someone explain what they mean by "Rename the GCB's and in the templates"

Are these file names? field names?? Help.

Those are just the names of the Global Content Blocks as you will see them in Content -> Global Content Blocks

Obviously, when you change the name, you will need to change the {global_content name='myblockname'} calls wherever you use them. Probably in the page template(s).
