installing a new template

Post by tex10 »

so now ive got ver .13 up and running without any obvious problems and im really excited to get going.

ive already started making a website w/o the use of any CMS.  - using the Andreas01 template

what is the best way to get it into CMSMS?

once, i get the template in - i would just need to copy and paste the content in - but how do i get the .css and template in?

also, shall i go ahead and delete what came preinstalled in the template/stylesheet section and then upload my the andreas 01 .css and index.html template.??

thanks for your help, i just dont want to mess this up!

also do i need a special module to build menus with the andreas01 template?

Hey tex10
Welcome to a whole new and better way to web site creation, sorry i didn't get back to you yet, below you will find a .xml file clik it and save it to your computer, then log in to your site and goto Layout » Theme Manager, clik the second tab at the top, Import, clik the Browse button, find the andeas01.xml file clik it and it will show up in the little Upload Theme window below that is the Import button clik it and it will take you back to the first tab page, now goto Layout » Templates and you should see the andreas01 template at the top, because it starts with an a, 2 rows over under Active you will see a red X clik that and the template will become active and usable, it may be called andreas01 : andreas01 which you can shorten to just andreas01 with out a problem, under Layout » Stylesheets you should see andreas01 : andreas01Layout, andreas01 : andreas01_print, and andreas01 : Tools, these are the CSS that control, well you know, how everything looks, they to can be renamed w/o any problem, that's the great thing about this system every thing is kept track of for you, all of the relationships are kept track of so if you rename say the menu template for this template, which is under Layout » Menu Manager now called andreas01 : andreas01 : andreasmenu whick of course you can rename to shorten it, it will still work with this and any other template that you attach it to.
to use the template you can goto Content » Pages and clik on say Home (the word) and in that page 5 little windows down is where you tell the page what Template to use, clik the drop down clik andeas01 and the page should refresh to reflect the 'boxes' that are ready for your content, which can be copy/pasted from your original site, there is know need to delete any of the default Templates or stylesheets...
any problems come back we will be here for you....

oh yea sorry... all "paths" must be looked at and changed to reflect the reality of the situation...
i have some templates that use JS for styling, the Rounded w/o Images templates, and in the header it shows my path but if you upload them they need to be changed to /theme/ .....
the preview button in the page edit mode is not the best way to see changes as it has a tendency to not show a second content box, if you have 2 content edit boxes on a template and you change the content in the bottom one than hit preview it won't show it, i use Firefox and keep one tab open with the page i'm working on and make changes in another tab then go back to the other tab and hit refresh to see changes....

no worries.  thank you for all the help.

if only you could manage many sites with one installation of CMSMS.... perhaps in the future.?

id also like to insert a simple form on one of the pages --- just for people to sign up for a newsletter -- is there a module you recommend? or shall i just edit the page manually

be well
