Seperate pages per user? Is it possible

Post by cubangt »

So helping with a school site that is using CMS Made Simple 1.6.6 "Bonde" and was asked the other day if its possible to create Bio pages for each teacher and have permissions setup to so that each one can ONLY edit their own pages.

Is something like this possible within this version or at all?

First: CMS Made Simple 1.6.6 "Bonde" is way too old; it urgently needs upgrading.

and that's fine, but being that this is a live production site, don't think they are going to upgrade to get an answer to the question.

All we need to know if such a setup is possible, regardless of the version. Can a page be setup per user and that they can edit themselves without editing someone else page?

Yes you can.

Create a user. Do NOT make it member of a group.

Then on the options tab of a page select that user on the MULTI select box 'Additional editors'.

Upgrading may not answer the question, but will protect your site (as older versions had known security issues), fix bugs (making your site more stable, and again less vulnerable), and probably give you additional features that won't be present at 1.6.6 version. Users management has improved too since, IIRC. I don't think anyone here can give you a reliable answer without installing 1.6.6 and looking, although some may have better memory than I do.

im on the "additional editors" portion on the page, so the list is just a list, meaning unless I actually select someone from the list, the rest don't have access to the page?

Cause I see "Owner" above the list then the "additional editors", just wanted to make sure before I make a change to the pages permissions.

You should test that.

Create an user and make it member of 'Editor' group and create a user that's not. Then check some settings. Again it's a multi-select box (hold ctrl key while selecting more than one user).

We are going to test with few account(test accounts), but I was mostly asking how the additional editors selection worked, if merely selecting someone from the list would be all that is needed in order to apply the changes.
