CMSms running slowly, problem adding/updating content

MySQL 4.0.20, PHP Version 4.3.10

Subject line more or less says it all.  In general I'm finding my implementation of CMSms much slower than any of the demo environments I encountered before downloading it, and I'm also finding it slower than other CMSs I'm demoing like phpwCMS, Lucid, etc.  Is there a reason for this?

I can't think of anything that would specifically cause it to run very slowly, and I'm fairly certain my installation went off without a hitch.  In terms of modules I do have the statistics module installed... could that be slowing things down?

Another issues is that I can't seem to get a flawless add content cycle.  Whenever I go to add content CMSms will timeout when I go to save the new content.  Sometimes the content will actually appear in the list afterwards, but most of the time it doesn't seem to get added to the database.  All my variables check-out tho...

Anyone know what I might look at?

i had the same problem: editing and submiting a content resulted in timeouts, though the content actually appeared in the database.
reinstalling fixed the problem. sorry but i can't help more... btw, it was with the 0.8.2 version.
