Re: touch and hover / link with delay possible?

Post by janvl »

oh please, come on,

my mother 93 years old uses win7 and had xp, no problem.
Win 8 with classic shell is as good as xp or 7 if you need a normal desktop.

I use Linux (ubuntu 12.04 lts - KDE) and my wife jumps between win 8.1 and Linux because the programms are the same - Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird, Libre Office etc.

Dear Dr. CSS we are about the same age, do not tell me you lost your flexibility . . .

Kind regards,
Jan

Hhhhmmmm.... I beg to disagree. I am currently half stuck with Win 8 and it is (IMnsHO) the worst piece of crap MS ever put out (well, maybe slightly above Vista, or Mill...).
1st opportunity I have I'll go back to 7...

Sorry to disagree with you but there is progress te see with MS.
I support XP - 7 - 8 - 8.1 and so I get the questions and the problems.
Now 8.1 is pretty smooth and using classic shell makes it similar to XP, the programms work mostly like they used to.

From a security point of view going from XP to 8 is a leap forward.

I have seen similar reactions when we went from 3.11 to 95 to 98 to XP so give 8 a chance, it is usable enough to work with.
BTW I do prefer Linux with KDE but that is something different.

Kind regards,
Jan

Try linux, you can almost always change it to work like you want to work.

Maybe we can agree on that ;)

It's not so much the look as the actual functionality, I don't need no stinkin 'Libraries' I like my stuff in the folder I put it in and don't need some convoluted path to find it.

When I move stuff from comp. to another I don't want to have to look thru 2 or more 'profiles' to find the needed data, it has no way of making it like XP as far as folder interface, when you get to a folder and want to go one level up from it you can't just open the address bar to see the additional folders nor hit the 'one level up' button...

I'm sorry but you really don't want to get me going on this subject...

I'm 58 and this has nothing to do with being old and stuck in my ways, I've tried, win95, win98, 2000, XP, Vista, win7, different variations of Linux, I happen to like the straight forward structure of XP...

Dear Dr. CSS

I know what you mean, I service(d) XP 7 and 8.
Know Windows from 3.11 till now.
Being 58 is not old, I will be that in a couple of month's too.

Never the less, I use Linux Ubuntu with KDE on top and Win8.1 with classic shell (and Android).

It alway needs getting used to, but one can work with all of them although I like Linux with KDE the most.

Kind regards,
Jan

Windows 8.1 isn't that bad, it needs some time to get used to it, as your workflow may need some change, but after one gets used to it workflow even improves compared to previous versions.
Except for jumping between "Modern UI" and "Desktiop UI" becuase of various Software there isn't that much visual or workflow difference between Windows 7 and 8.1 and yes i loved my XP and i jumped over Vista (what a nightmare OS) but i am extremely happy with Windows 7 and don't mind 8.1, no idea why everybody hates it :-)

Yes i do use Ubuntu (with Unity, i like that workflow) and Elementary (i like OS that is visually appealing and i don't have to waste my time with Conky or other crap to make it look nice) to, i love Linux to and would be happy to switch over full time if there wouldn't be that company called Adobe that isn't willing to provide CS or CC to Linux user and no there is no decent alternative to that Suite.
