Need some advice from everyone.

Post by twen88 »

Hi there, I need to build a book library to an existing cmsms site. Does anyone have an idea on which module should be used? The library needs searchable book categories, and people should be able to send booking request on the book detail page.

I am looking at the cataloger module, but dont know if this supports the booking part.

Your input is deeply appreciated!

Thanks for the suggestion. I can see that the products module has the ability to handle the book categories, listing and detail showing etc; however, when it comes to the book reservation step, I am kind of get lost a bit. Any suggestion with that?

You may need to explain 'book reservation' as you understand it...

cool site about pneumatics Rolf! ;D

Regarding the reservation part, you could try Rolf's example while using Frontend Users. Then, each item would have an Add to Cart button to reserve the item. If it is added to their cart, a normal checkout action would follow.

But, as Dr.CSS noted, a book reservation could mean many different things and it isn't clear what you are doing. A lending library? A downloadable item? If someone reserves an item, can another person also reserve that item (is there more than one of each item in inventory?)?

Hi, again, thank you for all your responses.

Regarding the book reservation, I am more thinking of the book lending and holding process. For instance, people should be able to find out if a book is available or how long it will become available. They should be able to submit a booking request and the duration of their borrowing. And all those need to be reflected in the admin side as well. I think in some other cms system, these kinds of information were displayed in a calendar format. There will be multiple copies of the same book in the inventory.

I think with products, feu, cart and orders modules, majorities of the functionality of an library are included. The only thing left would be how to manage the book availability and holding & lending time I guess. Not sure if I am correct about this.

wow, really like what you have done with the JSavailiability, could this be intergrated with feu?

I will look into this and see if I can find a solution. Thanks again.
